Managing information involves data collection and tracking at all levels within the school system - from parents and students to teachers and department administrators.

Some example of our projects include:

• Student services case tracking - DataHouse designed a comprehensive student support system for the Hawaii Department of Education that allows more than 8,000 system users to enter and track a range of student data, including school incidents, supports, referrals for Special Education services, IEPs, 504s and more. The system was designed to the specifications of the DOE. As laws change and place new reporting requirements on the DOE, DataHouse responds by developing or modifying data capture screens and reports. The Web-based system allows teachers, service providers and administrators to access the site 24x7, and users have access to report data in real-time. The system is hosted and managed by Nettricity, which handles access, backups, patch upgrades and monitoring.

• Student information system - Several years ago, the Hawaii Department of Education invested in a third-party Web-based student information system called eSIS. This system allows teachers and administrators to capture and manage a wide range of student information, including admissions, withdrawals, transfers, demographics, attendance and grades. To implement the system to suit the specific needs of Hawaii's school system, the DOE turned to DataHouse to assist in project management, user documentation, quality assurance, analysis and implementation of custom functionality. DataHouse's knowledge of school systems coupled with our extensive background in large-scale implementation has allowed the DOE to handle the complexities of system upgrades, pre-released patch fixes, issues tracking, training videos, documentation, data migration, pilot implementation and the rollout of new functions to end users. The system is hosted and managed by Nettricity, which handles access, backups, hardware upgrades and monitoring.

• School performance reporting - Every year, the Hawaii Department of Education reports on the progress of its schools according to requirements mandated by the state Legislature and the federal government, including No Child Left Behind (NCLB).  DataHouse plays an important role in helping the DOE publish comprehensive reports to the public.  Our analysts assist in every part of the reporting process, from data capture and database design to data analysis and publication. To facilitate data capture and validation, DataHouse developed a central Web site that allows authorized public school administators to review data and submit corrections before reports are made public.  In addition, DataHouse developed a public-facing Web site where reports are published every year. The Web site is a key information clearinghouse for stakeholders in the community - parents, schools, administrators, policy makers and the media.
