The Pacific Resource Partnership (PRP) is the joint Market Recovery program of the 6,000-member Hawaii Carpenters Union, Local 745, and its 400 signatory contractors across the state. This non-profit trust fund program was established in 1987 to promote the benefits of union carpentry from unionized contractors that compete for $3 billion or more in public and private construction projects in Hawaii each year.
With such a reach, PRP has long understood that efficient information management is key to delivering quality services. Almost 10 years ago, PRP implemented a Project Tracking System that was developed by DataHouse using the IBM AS/400 platform. Having experienced the benefits of the system, PRP was ready to extend this service to users through the Internet. With the help of DataHouse, PRP launched the redesign, integration and Web-enabling of its Project Tracking System into its marketing Web site.
The newly redesigned PRP Web site and Project Tracking System allow for the timely and efficient update of project tracking information by PRP users with its enhanced and new features. It empowers the Local 745 users and Signatory Contractors with the ability to query and search for Contractor, Permit, Bid Data, New Project, Site Visit and Tax Map Key information in real-time and enables them to understand the current construction marketplace and their competition.
Features and Benefits
The Project Tracking System is an application that offers the following key features:
- Maintenance of Project Tracking Information - Allows PRP users to perform on-line update of project tracking information.
- On-line and Timely Access to Information - Users can view updated project tracking information as soon as it is entered into the system.
- Web-based System - Using an Internet connection with a browser, PRP, Local 745 and Signatory Contractor users can access the Web site for the purpose of viewing marketing and project tracking information.
- Secured Access - Users are required to have 128-bit SSL browser encryption and must authenticate before they can access the system.
- Table Management - Facilitates the addition, modification, and deletion of new forms. This reduces the effort required to make changes, and minimizes the chance for error.
- User Management - Enables a PRP Administrator to define users and roles in order to manage access to the functions of the Web site.
The PRP Web site and Project Tracking System are built using Java on servers hosted at Nettricity®. The servers have Microsoft Windows 2000 and Linux operating systems and a SQL Server database. In addition, the application data is downloaded from the Nettricity hosting facility to PRP on a nightly basis so the PRP users can use it to create their own ad hoc queries.
